The creative force behind Hana Hou Productions is one individual - award winning graphic artist Melissa Casey [pictured at right] - who began designing invitations when she & her husband-to-be could not find “the perfect” design for their 2001 Oahu Wedding. Having lived in Hawai’i for several years, both fell in love with the islands and wanted an invitation design to reflect the unique beauty of their island home. Since that time Melissa has expanded the available designs, striving to create simple, yet beautiful invitation designs that reflect the island lifestyle - from the Caribbean to the South Pacific. Now back on the mainland, Melissa has been developing designs on other topics and is actively exploring the use of other design mediums from handmade papers and hand-dyed silk ribbons to custom made invitation boxes and favors.

Melissa now resides outside Chicago (a.k.a. the Windy City) and in mid 2006 switched to a local Chicago printer for the printing of her invitations. The printer Melissa started with in Hawai'i sadly closed its doors in the summer of 2006, so Melissa had to quickly find another high-quality printer - and pull the old website since that pricing was no longer valid [it needed a new look anyhow]. The later part of 2006 Melissa spent creating a new logo and working on the design for this new website - and implementing it before the Spring 2007 rush - no small task! Previously, Melissa was employed as a front-end web developer (designer), so she is all too familiar with various web and graphic desgin software.

Many clients based on the mainland have asked Melissa: "How do you pronounce "Hana Hou"?" It's pronounced Ha-na-Ho (not "Ha-na-Who"). "Hana Hou" is a Hawaiian phrase meaning "encore", so "Encore Productions".
